Discipleship is a journey in developing your personal faith walk with Jesus.

John 8:31-32

“To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Matthew 4:19

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said.

What is discipleship?

Discipleship is an open door for growing as a Christian. A disciple is simply someone who believes in Jesus and seeks to follow him in his or her daily life.  Discipleship is an experiential commitment to the process of following Jesus.  This means opening the heart to learning, accountability, and applying the truth of the Gospel of Jesus to our daily faith walk.  This is best accomplished when we can meet with a mature Christian mentor/discipler who can guide us in an authentic process of Christian growth.

Discipleship happens in the context of relationship. This is exemplified and modeled by Jesus Himself.  In the three years following their initial call to follow Jesus, the disciples would grow in their relationship and understanding of God's promise, but also in their relationship and fellowship with one another as they walked through real life together.  Discipleship is for us today one of the most, if not the most, important commitment we can make!  Practically speaking, discipleship is most beneficial in one on one settings, or in “micro-pods” of two  or three.

SALVATION is a one-time event. It happens the moment someone believes in Jesus for everlasting life. DISCIPLESHIP is a long term process of growth.  Jesus advised us to be His disciples!

Are you ready?

If  you are interested in being discipled, please check out the following opportunities!

A prerequisite (required) course for Discipleship (for men, women, couples) is:

“Pathway to Freedom” a Christian life study course written and taught by Pastor Glenn Brown.

Find true freedom in your life from past hurts, unforgiveness, unresolved issues, and trauma.

Pathway to Freedom Class starts Wednesday, October 7th, 7:00-8:30PM, in the Fellowship Hall.

The class includes a personal ministry time. All materials provided at the first class. Sign up below! For more information email

This class fully unravels the realities of our faith journey in the context of  lives being lived out in a world fraught with sin, temptation, and trials. It is an extremely important curriculum for those wanting to be discipled and engage in a discipleship experience, as well as those individuals who would be interested in mentoring or discipling others.  It is filled with valuable insight into spiritual warfare and the impact of living in an imperfect world with imperfect families and imperfect life experiences.  That includes all of us.

This course is far more than a teaching in deliverance (although that is part of the instruction)…it is a course that will prove helpful in all areas of our personal faith journey and in our understanding of those around us.  It provides solid, practical  input for “life,” based on the Word of God. If you have already taken the course, please sign up again for a “repeat,” as it is the kind of curriculum that can expand with each journey through it.

Ministries that lead to discipleship

Cell Groups

Cell Groups are our primary vehicle for discipleship. Being in a cell group will provide you with the opportunity to move into discipleship relationships and to experience living more missionally week in and week out.

This discipleship model is not a classroom/pew sitting style of learning, but a relationship based model where people are raised up by "alongsiders".  These are people who come alongside others and focus 1x1 with other cell members so they can be a 'world changer'; dealing with one's obstacles to growth in life.  The goal is to help people move into God's purposes for their lives.

Our Cell Groups are growing in number at Canyon View. Hosted in homes, coffee shops and even at the church, there are many groups for you to explore as you search for the one that’s right for you. Cell groups are your next step for spiritual growth and development.

For more information call the church at (970) 242-7970 and ask for Marty Estes or email Marty at

Relating to each other is so important to us at Canyon View Vineyard Church that it is one of our core values. One of the ways we relate to one another is through one-on-one discipleship. We know that in a large church like CVVC, it can be hard to get to know new people; that is why we host "Gatherings" so that men, women, young adults and families can fellowship together in hopes that stronger relationships can form.
