Good afternoon Canyon View family,
I want to shed a little more light on the announcement that was made Sunday in regards to Cory Sondrol. If you weren't here on Sunday, you can see the entire announcement and hear from both Cory and I by watching the sermon online.
On Saturday, October 5, Cory was interviewed and offered the opportunity to join Canyon View as my Co-Senior Pastor. Cory and Julia have accepted this job offer, and we are looking forward to Cory officially joining our wonderful staff after the new year.
This decision was not made lightly. It is the accumulation of extended prayer, prophetic words and dreams by various people that all pointed Cory and Julia in our direction. After much deliberation and patience from our staff, our elders and finance board we all sensed the Holy Spirit leading us to Cory. For the past 5 years I have believed that we would need a strong succession plan for your next Senior Pastor and have lifted this up to the Lord in prayer. Over the past year God has sovereignly made His plan clear so we can follow it.
What this means for you is that next year you’ll be seeing a lot more of Cory and a little less of me. We will be sharing the role of Senior Pastor for two years. After the two year period I will place the baton of Sr. Pastor into Cory’s hands and refocus my ministry efforts in other areas of need here at Canyon View. It’s important that you hear that Jane and I aren’t leaving Canyon View. We still have a desire to serve in the capacity the team deems best. At that point, Cory will take on the full mantle of Senior Pastor of Canyon View Vineyard Church.
Jane and I love this church–you’re our family–and we plan on staying on as an associate pastor, janitor, greeter or whatever they’ll let me do when the time comes. I want to thank all of you for your love and support during our time here. We are so excited to see what the Lord is going to do through the leadership of Cory and Julia. We believe the church is going to flourish even more under their leadership. To God be the glory!
A Little Bit About Cory
Cory and Julia recently celebrated 25 years of marriage. They met on their first day of college in music appreciation 101, (it’s been sweet music since). They have three kids; Carter 23, Braydon 22, and Bella 18.
Cory worked for about 10 years as an organizational development consultant with JD Power and other clients. He was captured by the love of Jesus and left the corporate world to full time ministry via Kirk and Jane's invitation in Cañon City around 2002. He has a degree in psychology, grad school work in team psychology and attended Vineyard Leadership Institute. He was Sr. Pastor for 9 years at Cañon City , and regional leader for the Vineyard Rocky Mountain region for 4 of those years. Encouraging others through teaching, coaching, partying and strategic planning is where much of his time goes as a leader.
For the last 3 years Cory has been the Pastor of Campuses for The Chapel, a large 8 location multi-site church in Chicagoland. Cory pastored the other pastors and led a staff of about 80 people.
Cory loves adventure, exploring, laughing with friends and seeing people’s eyes light up when they realize how great Jesus is. Ice cream is His love language.
We are so excited to have Cory join the Canyon View Vineyard Family!
